Youth group creates Pact inspired graffiti art.
On the 2nd of August we were delighted to take our youth group to the infamous Leake Street Tunnel in London Waterloo – a location that enables artists to express their unique creativity through graffiti art.
The young people, who are affected by the imprisonment of a family member, had the opportunity to meet a graffiti artist who hosted the session, and they were excited to hear about the celebrity visitors the site had seen over the years, and the films and music videos that it has featured in!
As part of the session the young people heard about some of the work the artist had done and his personal journey. He demonstrated the different techniques on how to use spray paint and the code of conduct- what we can spray over and what we couldn’t. The young people then had the chance to
enjoy experimenting with the different colours, writing their names and spraying pictures.
Once everybody had experimented and freely played around the group decided to create a piece that put their stamp on the wall. With guidance, the young people created their piece, ‘Our Pact Voice’. Everybody took turns to spray the outline and did some filling in.
When the young people completed the piece, they all stood back and looked at their work with pride, with their heads held high. When asked if they enjoyed the session one young person said:
- I loved it!

- I really enjoyed it, it looks really good.

- The session went really well. It gave the young people the opportunity to be part of London
culture, to have a session with a well-established graffiti artist and make their mark. The
opportunity would not have been possible without the generous donation of paint by James
